How to Create a Class: A Step-by-Step Guide

IQRALMS is a popular open-source learning management system (LMS) used by educators and institutions worldwide to create online courses. Creating a class on IQRALMS involves several steps to ensure that your course is well-structured and accessible to students. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you get started.

1. Log in to IQRALMS

  • Open your web browser and navigate to your IQRALMS site.
  • Enter your Microsoft365 username and password on the login page

2. Access the Course Management Area

  • Once logged in, navigate to the Site Administration section. This is usually found in the sidebar or the top navigation bar, depending on your IQRALMS theme.
  • Click on Courses, then enable edit mode.
  • Click on “Add activity and resources” and select Microsoft Team Meetings.

3. Create a New Course

  • Click on “Add activity and resources” and select Microsoft Team Meetings.
  • You will be directed to the course settings page where you will need to enter information about your new course.

4. Enter Course Information

  • Course Full Name: Enter the full name of your course. This will be visible to students.


  • Course Short Name: Enter a short name for your course. This will be used in various locations where space is limited.
  • Course Category: Choose the category where the course will be placed. You can create a new category if needed.
  • Course Summary: Provide a brief description of your course. This summary will be visible to students on the course overview page.


5. Create Multiple Sessions:

  • Go to “Dashboard” and navigate to calendar.
  • Click on the class day and create an event.
  • Enter event title, start date and time. You may also access further settings by clicking on show more options.
  • You can decide duration, location and how many times you want to repeat the event.


6. Configure Course Settings

  • Course Format: Select the format that best suits your course. IQRALMS offers several formats, such as Weekly, Topics, and Grid.
  • Course Start Date: Set the start date for your course. This will determine when the course is available to students.
  • Course End Date: Optional. Set an end date if your course is time-bound.
  • Number of Sections: Decide how many sections or weeks your course will have (depending on the format you chose).


7. Set Enrolment Options

  • Enrolment Methods: Choose how students will be enrolled in your course. IQRALMS offers options like Self-enrolment, Manual enrolment, and more.
  • Enrolment Key: If using self-enrolment, you can set an enrolment key (password) that students will need to access the course.

8. Adjust Course Appearance

  • Course Image: Upload an image that will represent your course. This image will appear on the course page.
  • Course Format Settings: Customize the appearance of your course layout if needed.

8. Save and Display

  • Review all your settings to ensure everything is configured correctly.
  • Click the Save and Display button to create the course and view it.

9. Add Content to Your Course

  • Turn Editing On: Click the “Turn editing on” button to start adding content.
  • Add Resources and Activities: Use the “Add an activity or resource” link to include lectures, quizzes, assignments, and other materials.
  • Organize Content: Arrange your materials and activities in the desired order and format.

10. Manage Course Participants

  • Go to the Participants section of your course to manage student enrolments.
  • Add or remove students as needed and assign roles such as teaching assistants or course administrators.

11. Review and Launch

  • Review your course setup to ensure everything is in place.
  • Announce the course to students and provide any necessary instructions for accessing the course.
