Introduction to
Doctor of Physical Therapy

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) is a five-year professional undergraduate degree designed to prepare graduates as competent, evidence-based, and ethical physical therapy practitioners. The program integrates foundational medical sciences with clinical sciences, rehabilitation, and research to develop professionals capable of preventing, assessing, diagnosing, and managing movement dysfunctions and physical disabilities across the lifespan.

A major component of the curriculum emphasizes hands-on clinical education through supervised clinical practice in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, sports organizations, and community healthcare settings. Students gain practical experience in musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary, pediatric, geriatric, and sports rehabilitation while developing critical thinking, clinical decision-making, communication, and leadership skills.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology, pathology, and exercise physiology relevant to physical therapy practice.

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessment and examination using evidence-based clinical evaluation techniques.

  • Formulate accurate physical therapy diagnoses, develop individualized treatment plans, and evaluate patient outcomes.

  • Apply therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, electrotherapy, and other rehabilitation interventions safely and effectively.

  • Manage patients with musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary, pediatric, geriatric, sports, and community-based rehabilitation needs.

  • Integrate evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning, and research findings into professional decision-making.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team while maintaining professional and ethical standards.
