Naqsh-e-Khayal: A Celebration of Art, Expression, and Literature

Iqra University lit up with colour, creativity, and culture on June 16, 2025, as it hosted Naqsh-e-Khayal — a spectacular one-day arts and literature festival that celebrated the power of storytelling, self-expression, and the timeless beauty of words. In collaboration with the Arts Council of Pakistan, Youth Ambassador Programme, and Dramatic Arts Alliance, along with the special appearance of the renowned artist and poet Yousuf Bashir Qureshi, who was the chief guest of the event, the festival brought together art enthusiasts, literature lovers, performers, and young talent from across Karachi under one roof.

Inaugurated by Dr. Zaki Rashidi (Dean, Faculty of Business Administration) and Dr. Noorunnisa Khan (HOD, Social Sciences & English), Naqsh-e-Khayal marked a milestone in Iqra University’s cultural calendar — reflecting the institution’s unwavering commitment to nurturing creative thought and artistic expression.

The event began with a warm and energetic welcome from student hosts, followed by Ms. Fatima Qanita, Senior Lecturer, who eloquently introduced the day’s theme, centred around imagination, creativity, and the expression of thought.

When Characters Speak

This segment portrayed captivating performances, where iconic literary figures came alive on stage. It mesmerised the audience, making fiction feel vividly real.

All-Karachi Bait-Baazi Competition

Echoes of classic Urdu poetry filled the halls as teams from across Karachi competed in a passionate display of wit, rhythm, and literary flair.

Aphenor – Theatrical Performance

A gripping psychological horror staged by the Dramatic Arts Alliance, this play stunned audiences with its haunting narrative and powerful performances.

Rang-e-Mosiqi – Classical Music Segment

In a soulful symphony of classical sounds, performers from Beats & Buzz Music Society, Youth Ambassador Programme, and IU Music Society created a calming yet moving ambience.

Aik Soch – A Thoughtful Session with Yousuf Bashir Qureshi

The day’s highlight was an inspiring session with the renowned artist and poet Yousuf Bashir Qureshi, whose heartfelt poetry and engaging conversation left the audience spellbound.

 

Art Display by IU’s Creative Minds

Adding vibrancy to the day, a stunning student-curated art exhibition filled the venue with colour and thought-provoking visuals, curated under the mentorship of Ms. Sindhu, Ms. Samina Mumtaz, Ms. Komal Zafar, and Mr. Shariq.

Stalls and more

Visitors explored thoughtfully curated book stalls, indulged in treats from food vendors, and admired local craftsmanship at the art & craft booths — making it a truly immersive festival experience.

Naqsh-e-Khayal wasn’t just an event — it was a heartfelt tribute to the arts, literature, and the voices of tomorrow. With its powerful performances, poetic conversations, and creative spirit, the festival not only entertained but also inspired.

Iqra University proudly continues to be a platform where imagination meets intellect, and voices find their space to be heard.
