Celebrating Freedom: Iqra University’s Week-Long Independence Day Festivities

Iqra University proudly commenced its week-long Independence Day celebrations, transforming the month into a vibrant tribute to Pakistan’s resilience, history, and future aspirations. A series of engaging events, under the thematic banners of Bunyan-um-Marsoos, Marka-e-Haq, and Jashan-e-Azadi, brought together students, faculty, and alumni in a shared spirit of patriotism.

From sporting showdowns that filled the courts with adrenaline to cultural performances that celebrated Pakistan’s artistic heritage, every activity reflected the true essence of freedom. Among the highlights were:

Bunyan-um-Marsoos Interactive Talk: With Brig. (R) Haris Nawaz as the chief guest, the session enlightened students on Pakistan’s historical resilience and its role as a peace-loving nuclear state. He encouraged youth to take pride in their identity and contribute to Pakistan’s progress.

The Futsal Showdown: A thrilling display of teamwork, energy, and sporting spirit as IU’s finest athletes battled it out in front of a cheering crowd.

The Azadi Walk: IU’s staff and faculty stepped forward in unity, symbolising resilience and collective pride.

And finally, the celebrations culminated in a grand 14th August ceremony.

Flag Hoisting & Cake Cutting Ceremony: The Independence Day began with a solemn yet powerful moment. The sight of the green and white flag rising high above Iqra University filled the air with pride, reminding everyone of the sacrifices that won the country freedom and the dreams that guide our future. As the anthem echoed across the campus, voices united in patriotic fervour. The celebrations then took a sweet turn with a grand cake-cutting ceremony, marking not just a historic day but the living heartbeat of a nation that thrives within us all.

The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Nassar Ikram, hoisted the flag and applauded the enthusiastic participation of students and faculty, remarking that the celebrations this year began with unprecedented zeal and shone brightest on August 14th itself.

“This year’s Independence Day should be marked with renewed passion and unity, sending a strong message to the world that Pakistan is on a steady path towards progress and prosperity. On this occasion, we must reaffirm our pledge to rise above divisions of race, colour, or religion, and work collectively to steer our nation out of political and economic challenges.”

The week-long festivities showcased how Iqra University continues to inspire its students not only academically but also culturally, instilling values of unity, pride, and responsibility. By blending history, dialogue, and cultural pride, IU ensured that Independence Day 2025 was celebrated as more than a tradition; it was a living expression of national spirit.
