After conducting a workshop and focus group discussion on Intellectual Property Rights, the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) at IU is excited to share its journey from minimal awareness of Intellectual Property Rights to creating a buzz. The initiative began with celebrating World Intellectual Property Rights Day at IU, which inspired the motivation to secure intellectual property rights. This led to arranging focus group sessions for concerned faculty and students to address their questions, which in turn raised interest among scholars about protecting their intellectual property. To support this, ORIC started offering daily consultations and monitoring for patent/design filing to overcome technicalities. The success of ORIC is evident in the significant increase in the number of patents and designs filed by various IU departments. In just four months, the Manager of ORIC’s dedicated efforts resulted in the successful filing of 26 patents. IU ORIC is committed to ensuring compliance and securing ideas regarding Intellectual Property Rights.
