Reimagining Pakistan By: Dr. Miftah Ismail, Former Finance Minister

Dr. Miftah Ismail, the former steward of Pakistan’s finances, graced the halls of Iqra University, igniting a passionate discourse on the nation’s economic trajectory and the imperative of redefining its future. Addressing a captivated audience of scholars, administrators, and eager minds, Dr. Ismail, accompanied by the esteemed Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Nassar Ikram, delved into the heart of Pakistan’s challenges and prospects under the theme “Reimagining Pakistan: Embracing a Future of Infinite Possibilities.”

Drawing from a wealth of experience, Dr. Ismail illuminated the stark realities of Pakistan’s economic landscape, where systemic deficiencies continue to hamper progress. He minced no words in highlighting the sobering truth that a nation cannot thrive when a significant portion of its youth languishes in illiteracy and malnutrition. “A country cannot flourish when its future—our children—are denied the basic tools to thrive,” he asserted, his words resonating with urgency.

Dr. Ismail, alongside luminaries such as Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Mustafa Nawaz Khokar, laid the cornerstone for change with the inception of the “Reimagining Platform,” a visionary initiative aimed at catalysing transformation across Pakistan. Through a series of enlightening seminars, this platform has galvanized discussions on reshaping the nation’s destiny.

Emphasizing the pivotal role of education as the bedrock of progress, Dr. Ismail passionately advocated for closing the gap that perpetuates inequality. He decried the entrenched disparities in access to quality education and employment opportunities, calling for a paradigm shift towards inclusivity and equal opportunity.

The former finance minister did not shy away from confronting the grim statistics that plague Pakistan’s social fabric. With over 20 million children deprived of education and millions more trapped in the vicious cycle of poverty, Dr. Ismail underscored the urgent need for concerted action. He lamented the staggering toll of neglect on women’s health, decrying the silent epidemic of iron deficiency that perpetuates intergenerational suffering.
