Iqra University Model United Nations (IU MUN) presented Majlis e Taqseem e Bar e Sagheer, a unique historical crisis committee that brought together passionate delegates from more than 30 universities across Karachi. The committee provided participants with an immersive platform to explore a defining chapter of South Asian history while developing their skills in diplomacy, strategic thinking, leadership, and public speaking. Unlike a conventional Model United Nations committee, Majlis e Taqseem e Bar e Sagheer placed delegates within a historical setting, allowing them to take on the roles of key figures and respond to complex challenges through debate, negotiation, and strategic decision making.
Bringing History into the Debate Room
The historical crisis committee encouraged delegates to move beyond simply studying history and instead experience it through active participation. By assuming the roles of influential figures from the period surrounding the partition of the subcontinent, participants were challenged to understand different perspectives and make decisions within a complex historical context. The format encouraged delegates to consider the political, social, and strategic factors that shaped the era while developing their own approaches to the challenges presented during the committee.
Developing Diplomacy and Leadership Skills
Throughout the committee, delegates demonstrated their ability to negotiate, communicate effectively, think critically, and respond strategically to evolving situations. The dynamic nature of the crisis committee required participants to adapt their strategies while working with others and defending their positions. The experience strengthened essential skills including diplomacy, research, public speaking, leadership, critical thinking, and collaborative decision making. These skills extend beyond Model United Nations and are valuable for students preparing to take on leadership roles in their academic and professional lives.
Celebrating Outstanding Delegates
The committee also recognized delegates who demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the event. Outstanding participants received prizes and recognition for their diplomacy, leadership, research, critical thinking, and ability to navigate the challenges of the historical crisis. Their achievements reflected the dedication and preparation required to excel in a demanding committee environment and highlighted the strong level of talent among participating students.
A Platform for Dialogue and Collaboration
With participation from students representing more than 30 universities across Karachi, Majlis e Taqseem e Bar e Sagheer created an opportunity for young people from diverse academic backgrounds to connect, exchange ideas, and collaborate. The committee demonstrated how Model United Nations can go beyond formal debate to create meaningful learning experiences that encourage students to understand history, appreciate different perspectives, and develop the confidence to engage in constructive dialogue. Through IU MUN, Iqra University continues to provide students with platforms that promote leadership, diplomacy, intellectual curiosity, and collaboration. Majlis e Taqseem e Bar e Sagheer served as an inspiring example of experiential learning, bringing history to life while empowering students to think critically, communicate confidently, and lead with purpose.
