Dr. Iqra Mukhtar is a legally qualified and professionally competent pharmacist. She is an accomplished academic and researcher with a wealth of experience spanning over six years. Holding the prestigious second position in the Pharm. D examination (2017) from the University of Karachi, her academic journey reflects excellence from the outset. Her professional trajectory has seen her contribute significantly to the fields of pharmacology and neuropharmacology.
Her passion for research and teaching led her to pursue further studies, culminating in an M.Phil. in pharmacology from the renowned International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences at the University of Karachi. After completing her M.Phil. Dr. Mukhtar embarked on her academic career as a faculty lecturer at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Dewan University.
Her expertise lies in neuropharmacology, where she has demonstrated a keen interest and dynamic approach to research. During her tenure as a research fellow at ICCBS, she focused on investigating the mechanisms underlying epilepsy and potential treatments. Her work included screening natural compounds for their efficacy against epileptogenesis, employing advanced molecular techniques to study the cellular pathways involved in epilepsy, and exploring the association of epilepsy with neuropsychiatric comorbidities. She aims to elucidate the biological underpinnings of neurodegenerative diseases and mechanisms of neuroimmune crosstalk implicated in the induction of variety of neurological diseases.
One of her notable achievements is her publication in Elseviers prestigious journal “Seizure: the journal of the British epilepsy association” as a sole author. This publication underscores her dedication to rigorous research and academic writing.
Dr. Mukhtar is not only committed to advancing her own knowledge but also to sharing her expertise with others. She has actively participated in various workshops, symposia, courses, and conferences, where she has disseminated her findings on the mechanistic pathogenesis of epilepsy through oral and poster presentations. Her involvement with the International League Against Epilepsy further highlights her dedication to staying updated on the latest developments in her field.
At Department of Pharmacy, Iqra University, where she joined in March 2023, Dr. Mukhtar continues to inspire students with her enthusiasm for academic pursuits and her commitment to fostering a dynamic learning environment. Her passion for teaching and research makes her a valuable asset to the academic community, and her contributions are poised to make a lasting impact on the field of pharmacology.
