Iqra University has officially established the Iqra Law School, marking a defining moment in the institution’s 25-year journey. With the induction of its first-ever LLB Program batch, the Class of 2029, IU steps confidently into the realm of premium legal education in Pakistan.
The inauguration ceremony was led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Nassar Ikram, who welcomed the new law students with a powerful and inspiring address. He began by thanking the senior management, academic leaders, and all those who played a crucial role in establishing the Law School, emphasising that this milestone reflects IU’s commitment to becoming a leading educational institution in the country.
“You Are Not Ordinary — You Are the First.”
Speaking to the newly inducted students, the vice-chancellor highlighted the significance of being
the first batch:
“You are the founders of this Law School’s legacy. You will write its chapter with integrity, excellence
and vision.”
He reminded them that the launch of the LLB program was not simply to add another discipline but
to serve a national purpose: to produce quality lawyers who uphold integrity, justice, and excellence.
While Pakistan has many lawyers, he noted, the country now needs well-versed lawyers, those who
think strategically, act ethically, and operate confidently on the global stage.
In his welcome address, Dr Ikram also paid tribute to legendary jurists such as Justice Hamoodur Rahman, Justice Dorab Patel, and Justice Rana Bhagwandas, whose fairness earned universal respect, and urged students to draw inspiration from those who shaped Pakistan’s legal and moral
framework.
Law as a Sacred Trust
The vice-chancellor further emphasised that law is not just a career, but a sacred trust. “It governs
justice, liberty, rights, property, and the balance of power in society.”
He cautioned students that dishonesty is easy and, unfortunately, common in our society, but true greatness comes only through integrity. “Future lawyers must choose which league they wish to belong to: those who compromise principles, or those who defend them.”
Beyond the Courtroom: Become the National Interest Moreover, Dr Ikram shared eye-opening examples from international arbitration, referencing multi-billion-dollar cases lost due to weak legal strategies. According to him, these stories served as a
reminder that Pakistan’s legal talent must go beyond courtroom litigation. “The country needs lawyers who can shape national policy, so don’t limit yourself to courtrooms. You must become the national interest, the ones who operate on the global stage.”
Building a Premium Law School
Iqra University established its Law School with deep care, extensive research, and a commitment to
high standards. The school is led by a principal with decades of judicial and legal experience, Justice (Retd) Nadeem Akhtar, Dean of Law School, ensuring that students are mentored by experts who have shaped legal practice in Pakistan.
The vision of IU is clear and bold: To make Iqra University Law School a premium seat of legal learning in Pakistan.
A New Era Begins
The launch of the Iqra Law School is a commitment to shaping the future of Pakistan’s justice system. The first batch stands at the forefront of history, carrying the responsibility and privilege of setting the standards for generations to follow. “One day, people will proudly say: The greatness of Iqra University’s law school began with its very first batch.” With top-tier faculty, international linkages, experiential learning, and a values-driven vision, Iqra University is ready to redefine legal education in Pakistan.
