Iqra University Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar in Collaboration with Syed Foundation, Colgate Palmolive & POA

As part of its commitment to community well-being and women’s health advocacy, Iqra University organised a comprehensive Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar on October 31, 2025. The event, held at the university’s auditorium, was organised in collaboration with the Syed Foundation, Colgate-Palmolive, and the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), bringing together experts and stakeholders dedicated to strengthening the fight against breast cancer in Pakistan.

Honouring a Legacy of Community Impact

The seminar was graced by Ms Imaan Lakhani, the daughter of the late Founder of Iqra University, Mr Hunaid Lakhani, who attended as the Guest of Honour. In her presence, the university reaffirmed its mission to empower communities through education, health awareness, and meaningful social initiatives.

An Insightful Talk by a Leading Surgeon

Renowned surgeon Prof. Dr Rufina Soomro delivered a powerful and eye-opening session on the realities of breast cancer in Pakistan. Highlighting the urgent need for widespread awareness, she emphasised:

“In Pakistan, even women in their early 20s are being diagnosed with breast cancer, but due to a lack of awareness and lack of funds, most of them are not willing to get treatment. We should raise awareness about breast cancer, not just among women but men as well.”

Her message underscored the pressing need for early detection, access to care, and education across all segments of society.

Distinguished Guests in Attendance

The event was also attended by key figures from partner organisations, including:

  • Mr Syed Wasim Hashmi, President, Syed Foundation
  • Mrs Fatima Lakhani, Chairperson, POA Women’s Commission
  • Ms Veena Masud, Member of the Pakistan Swimming Federation

Their presence highlighted the shared responsibility between academia, corporate entities, and sports bodies in promoting women’s health and community welfare.

A Call for Collective Action

The seminar concluded with a unified call to continue fostering partnerships between universities, healthcare professionals, and corporate organisations. Such collaborations are essential in driving awareness, encouraging early screenings, and supporting individuals and families impacted by breast cancer.

With initiatives like this, Iqra University continues to champion causes that empower society and create lasting impact beyond the classroom.
