When friendship transcends borders, culture and education become powerful bridges that bring people closer together. Iqra University proudly hosted the Pakistan–Indonesia Friendship & Independence Day Commemoration in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi and Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Indonesia. The event brought together diplomatic representatives, academic leaders, and students to celebrate the enduring bond between Pakistan and Indonesia while fostering cultural exchange, academic dialogue, and meaningful youth engagement.
Celebrating Shared History and Cultural Connections
The formal ceremony featured keynote addresses by Dr. M. Zaki Rashidi, Campus Director (Main), Iqra University, and Ms. Dian Ratri Astuti, Consul for Information and Socio-Cultural Affairs, Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi. The event also welcomed Prof. Dr. Ridho al Hamdi, Dean, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, UMY, and Dr. Erum Hafeez, Dean, Faculty of Media Sciences, Iqra University, reflecting the role of academia in strengthening international understanding and people-to-people connections.
The programme was further enriched by Indonesian and Pakistani cultural performances, offering participants an opportunity to experience the traditions and cultural richness of both nations while celebrating the spirit of friendship between them.
Connecting Students Through Academic and Youth Dialogue
The celebration continued with the Indonesia–Pakistan Academic & Youth Forum 2026, bringing together Indonesian and Pakistani students for meaningful dialogue and the exchange of perspectives. Under the theme, “Celebrating Independence, Building the Future: The Role of Indonesian and Pakistani Youth in Bridging Friendship and Global Cooperation,” the forum explored the role of young people in strengthening international relationships and creating opportunities for collaboration. The forum provided students with a platform to engage in academic interaction, share ideas, and develop a deeper understanding of the connections between Pakistan and Indonesia through dialogue and cultural exchange.
