Iqra University Hosts APSUP Rectors’ Roundtable Conference

Iqra University recently became the centre of a significant academic dialogue as it hosted a prestigious Roundtable Conference under the aegis of the Association of Private Sector Universities of Pakistan (APSUP). The event brought together some of the most respected academic leaders and policy influencers from across the country to engage in meaningful discussions around the theme: “Shaping the Future: Governance, Leadership, and Reforms in Higher Education.”

The session was presided over by Mr. Naveed Lakhani, Chairman of Iqra University, alongside Prof. Dr. Nassar Ikram, Vice Chancellor of Iqra University, while Dr. Sumaira Rehman, Rector of Superior University Lahore and Patron-in-Chief of the Rectors’ Conference, moderated the proceedings.

A Vision for the Future

In his remarks, Mr. Naveed Lakhani highlighted the importance of dialogue and collaboration in advancing Pakistan’s higher education landscape. He noted: 

“We are truly thrilled to have hosted this Roundtable Conference at Iqra University. This dialogue represents a significant step towards shaping the future of higher education through stronger governance, visionary leadership, innovation and the introduction of Artificial Intelligence in the university management system. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that universities in Pakistan are well-equipped to meet the evolving global challenges of tomorrow.

” His words captured the spirit of the conference, emphasising not just the importance of leadership but also the need to embrace innovation and technological integration in academic systems.

Announcement of the 6th Rectors’ Conference 

One of the major highlights of the event was the official announcement of the 6th Rectors’ Conference, which will take place from December 3 to 5, 2025. This upcoming conference promises to be a landmark event, furthering the mission of APSUP in uniting educational leaders to shape a more resilient and future-ready higher education sector in Pakistan.

Participation of Distinguished Institutions

The Roundtable Conference saw active participation from Vice Chancellors and representatives of some of the country’s leading universities, including SZABIST, Ziauddin University, Hamdard University, and the Institute of Business Management (IoBM). Leaders from Ilma University, Dewan University, UIT University, and several others also contributed to the dialogue. 

Shared Insights and Proposals 

Academic leaders shared their perspectives on strengthening higher education in Pakistan. They stressed the need to align academic structures with global standards, to introduce governance reforms, and to equip institutions to address emerging challenges. Their proposals reflected a shared vision of a more robust, innovative, and sustainable higher education system. 

Unveiling of the Sports Olympiad 2025 Trophy 

Adding another layer of excitement to the event, the APSUP Sports Olympiad conference was held alongside the roundtable. On this occasion, the Sports Olympiad 2025 Trophy was unveiled, symbolising Pakistan’s first-ever Olympiad uniting athletes from both public and private universities.
