Centre for English Language
Centre for English Language offers a range of general, professional and academic English language courses to help students develop the required proficiency for the various academic programs. The centre employs a variety of teaching approaches within a technologically enhanced learning environment to facilitate English language learning. The centre also offers courses in literature across disciplines with an overarching objective to sharpen the intellect, build sensitivity, present different perspectives of human life and foster awareness of literary heritage.

Our vision at the Centre for English Language is to provide excellence in English language teaching and learning through uncompromising adherence to quality, integration of technology and a variety of extracurricular activities designed to develop language skills.
Our Mission at CEL
Our mission is to enrich the lives of the second language speakers of English language by fostering an appreciation for the language while embracing cultural and social diversity. We also aim to instill strong language skills that can ensure that our students and faculty stand out as global citizens.
Meet the Team
Director, Dr. Fatima Rehan Dar
Dr Fatima Rehan Dar works as Director, Curriculum and Professional Development and Director, Centre for English Language at Iqra University, Karachi. She has earned her PhD from the School of Education and Cognitive Science, Asia e University, Malaysia. She also has an MA in Curriculum and Teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University (USA) and an MA in English Language and Literature from Government College University (Lahore). She has worked as a teacher educator and a consultant with various universities and organizations in Pakistan and abroad including Aga Khan University, SZABIST, IOBM, Karachi, Beaconhouse National University, Virtual University and Ali Institute of Education, Lahore. She has also worked with international donor agencies, USAID, DFID, Mckinsey, and Adam Smith International, on education projects. She has also taught at University of Warwick (UK) and Institute of Education (UK). She has also been a Charles Wallace Trust scholar at the Institute of Education (UK) in the year 2000. Her publications, both national and international, address issues related to curriculum development, teacher education and English language teaching.
Mr. Muhammad Younus Fareed
Muhammad Younus Fareed is associated with Centre of English Language as an Assistant Professor. He also serves as the coordinator of English programs at Iqra University. He is a PhD Scholar in English Linguistics and has ten years’ experience of teaching English language courses to learners of different competency levels. Mr. Fareed’s areas of research interest include second language teaching methodology, teacher education, and academic reading and writing instruction.
Ms. Roshana Kamran
Roshana Kamran works a lecturer at the Centre for English Language, Iqra University. She is currently pursuing her MPhil in English from Iqra University. She holds a Masters degree in English Literature from the University of Karachi. She has been associated with reputable private sector educational institutions since 2007. Her research interests are Teaching of Language through Literature, Appreciation of Literature.
Mr. Shahzad Shamshad
Shahzad Shamshad is associated with Iqra University for more than 10 years and currently serves as lecturer at the Centre for English Language. With his experience of the corporate industry, he is better equipped towards business communication and public speaking. Besides holding a master’s degree in English literature, he has also earned an MBA in human resource management. Shahzad, during his corporate tenure of more than 19 years, has undergone a number of rigorous training programs of international level on sales, sales management, interviewing methods and project management.
Ms. Alia Faruqui
Alia Faruqui works as a lecturer at the Centre for English Language, Iqra University. She has earned her MS degree in Applied Linguistics from NED University of Engineering & Technology. She has eight years of teaching experience at various organizations including NED University of Engineering & Technology, University of Karachi, and National University of Modern Languages. Her research interests include second language learning and teaching.
Mr. Muhammad Talha Saleem
Muhammad Talha Saleem works as a lecturer at the Centre for English Language, Iqra University. He holds an MS degree in Applied Linguistics and an MA degree in English Linguistics & Literature and. His research interest includes Teacher Education and 21st Century Teaching Pedagogy. He is serving the ELT community by volunteering at SPELT as an Academic Coordinator 2018 – 19.
Ms. Sana Tahir
Sana Tahir is currently working as a Lecturer at the Centre for English Language, Iqra University. She has completed her M.Phil. in English Literature and Linguistics from Bahaudduin Zakariya University, Multan. She has been associated with several educational institutes since 2012.
Ms. Muniza Asad
Muniza Asad works as a Teaching Facilitator, Centre for English Language at Iqra University, Karachi. She has earned her M.A in Linguistics from University of Karachi. She has taught at different prestigious universities of Karachi. She has been associated with reputable private sector educational institutions since 2016. Her areas of research interest include English language teaching, language and gender and curriculum development.
Coordinator CEL, Mr. Basit Ali
Basit Ali works as the Coordinator, Centre for English Language as well as the Coordinator for the Centre for Curriculum & Professional Development at Iqra University, Karachi from where he also completed his BS in Computer Science. Basit has also obtained a BA from the University of Karachi with majors in Education, Social Science and Political Sciences. He has also represented Iqra University as a chess champion. He was also involved in the Iqra University Model United Nations as Director Management for two consecutive years. Basit also worked with a renowned group of industries where his role was that of quality controller team lead. Basit has attached himself with the Centre for Curriculum and Professional Development in order to support the educational development initiatives being organized through the centre from the platform of Iqra University.
