IQRA FASHION SHOW – 2017

The Department of Fashion and Design at Iqra University Islamabad Campus held its graduate show 2017 for the Fashion pathway in collaboration with the Embassy of Uzbekistan on November 22nd, 2017, at the Marriott Hotel. The event celebrated the friendship and rich textile tradition of the two countries. A range of themes were represented by the students which included: Islamic Art by Aqsa Khalid, Brocade by Zainab Mumtaz, Arabesque by Mariam Maqsood, ‘Lahore, Lahore ay’ by Mehak Zehra, Truck Art by Filza Marri, Ajrak by Jawad Azhar, Folk Art by Quratul Ain Maryam, Lahore Fort by Amber Iqbal and Hagia Sophia by Nazia Sami. These final collections were made in keeping with the western tailoring tradition taught at the University, but the themes, textiles and embellishments used render them quintessentially Pakistani. Iqra University fashion parade ended with the collection ‘Avian Garden” by @Sumaira Sajjad an assistant Professor and Ex graduate of Iqra University who is running her own bridal label with the name of Shahzad N Sumaira -S.N.S Next was the segment showcasing traditional costumes from Uzbekistan made mostly from the famous atlas textile, rich in both colour and history. The sequence displayed a modern take on Uzbek clothing as well as traditional clothes for men, women and children. These looks were heavily accessorised with headdresses and jewellery. Some select jewellery pieces were on loan from the private collection of anthropologist Dr. Shabnam Malik from Iqra University.
